and Fatty Liver Screening Programs
New physician-led programs address two of the most common, and most overlooked, metabolic health conditions

OAKLAND, Calif., July 27, 2026: MacArthur Gastroenterology today announced the launch of two new physician-led programs: a noninvasive fatty liver screening program and a physician-supervised weight management program. Both are now open for consultation booking.
Addressing a Condition Most People Don't Know They Have
MASLD, the metabolic liver condition formerly known as fatty liver disease, affects roughly 24% of U.S. adults, according to the NIDDK. It typically causes no symptoms in its early stages, which means most people who have it don’t know.
MacArthur Gastroenterology’s new fatty liver screening program uses Velacur ONE, an FDA-cleared, point-of-care ultrasound elastography system that measures liver stiffness and fat content in a single office visit, without needles or sedation. Patients with risk factors such as prediabetes, high blood pressure, or a family history of liver disease can now request a screening evaluation directly through the fatty liver screening page. Many insurance plans may cover the exam when medically appropriate.
A Physician-Led Approach to Weight Management
More than 2 in 5 U.S. adults have obesity, and many also manage related conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure, according to the CDC. MacArthur Gastroenterology’s new weight management program pairs physician evaluation and ongoing monitoring with compounded GLP-1 therapy, administered in-clinic by subcutaneous injection and never shipped.
The program follows an evaluation-first model. Patients begin with a physician consultation, not a direct purchase, so that candidacy, dosing, and monitoring are handled individually. Dr. Ralph Peterson brings more than 40 years of medical experience to MacArthur Gastroenterology, including over 30 years specializing in gastroenterology and internal medicine. For more than 12 years, his practice has focused on treating viral hepatitis, achieving a cure rate above 90% in Hepatitis B and C cases. He is a sought-after speaker and medical presenter on colorectal cancer and on the treatment and cure of Hepatitis B and C.
Dr. Peterson has served on the advisory boards of leading pharmaceutical companies, including Gilead, and is also Medical Director of uFirst Health Partners, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fatty liver disease awareness and education. He also leads research and development at NEXT2ME, LLC, where he invented the 1440 Vibrational Energetic Spray supplement line.
His work has taken him well beyond the clinic, including service as a medical team leader in Sierra Leone, evaluating medical needs across multiple provinces, and as a volunteer physician in Bohol, Philippines, training local providers in the treatment of gastrointestinal disease and hepatitis.
A former Master's Track & Field world record holder in the 4x100 relay, Dr. Peterson has been recognized by the American Cancer Society, 100 Black Men of America, 100 Black Men of the Bay Area, and the Alameda County Board of Supervisors for his outstanding service to men's health.
